Shifter Knob

Post by Randle »

Got a question, hopefully somebody knows the answer to. I am rebuilding a 71 automatic column. I have a couple of shift levers, one with the lever in good shape the other with the knob it good shape. I have tried wraping the lever in a rag and clamping it in a vice then unscrewing the knob, but when you put pressure on the knob you can see the lever flexing. I know you can buy new knobs so then should come off. Does anyone know if the knob is screwed on or pressed on. Thanks for any help.

I believe they are pressed on ,I'm not sure if you can get it off in one piece though.

Thanks cep62 I put enough pressure on it I was afraid I was going to twist the lever. I may play with one of them and see if I can cut the knob off and just order a new one to replace it.
