is your truck a 4x4? the 4x4 oil filter adapter hangs the filter in a different way as the two wheel drive trucks and cars do.

Welcome to the site.
The FE oil filter housing bolts on and is different on some models, so it can be changed.
On mine I used a shorter filter , I think it;s from a chrysler V8 (318)?
and the V8 Mustang II also takes a short filter.

My truck is two wheel drive and I read the how to put power steering on two wheel drive trucks and it said I needed the truck filter mount that holds the filter horizontal and that's what I have.I thought about getting the oil filter relocator kit. Any thoughts?

You can get a stock adapter that points the filter down , and it bolts on easy.

Simply stated, you have the wrong PS bracket. Google or look on eBay for the right bracket. I'm a ourist at heart so I sways try to build them the right way.
You will be able to see the difference in the bracketry
