Quick Crown vic IFS question
I'm sticking an crown vic ifs under the 69, my question is which rear axle to run?
Swap axle shafts out in my current 9" or run an explorer 8.8? or other? what years?
I plan on running stock 19" mustang wheels.
I'm trying to figure out which one will provide the same track width.

1980-1983 Ford F-100 9-inch rear end will be the correct width and have the correct 5 on 4.5" lug pattern. You'll just need to move the spring perches and lower shock mounts inward.

Re: Quick Crown vic IFS question
The 80 to 83 ford 9" usually involves getting the whole truck here.
I've found a few 8.8 the nearest one is a 3.73 open diff, think I'll hold out for something with a limited slip or locker.
Anyone know what back spacing will work on the front and rear?
I've found some 20" wheels I like instead of the 19's.
Looking at a 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear.

Re: Quick Crown vic IFS question
I am running the Explorer axle which is a bolt in with the axle on top of the leaf springs. It is a narrow rear end which is what I wanted. I wanted the deep look on the wheels. Wheel size I am planning is is a 20x10 with a 4" backspacing. Cool thing about the 8.8 Explorer is 31 spline axles with limited slip and the a common gear in them is 3.73 which is perfect for me. Plus the swaybar can be mounted easily as well.

not needed with an Explorer axle all I did was use a die grinder and open up the holes on the spring perches a little about and 1/8 inch on each sideBrockGrimes wrote:Did you or anyone use a kit like this:

and hung the axle on top of the springs

Did you not have any pinion angle issues without using the kit?

So what made you go with the crown vic IFS? I have been told mustang 2 or aerostar is best because of the backspacing issues and overall width. What are your thoughts?
