new f250, quick questions!

Post by Andre69f250 »

Just bought a 69 f250 with what i was told has a stock 302 and c6 out of a mustang. the car used to be a stick shift i believe, but is now on the column and automatic. the column shifter is SLOPPY, pretty out of whack, goes in gear but, you got to mess with it... how do i tighten up the column shifting linkage and all?

Also i am going to drain the tranny pan and change the fluid and filter. This car takes the AT type F correct? And if im going to just drain the bottom pan how much atf do i need? 4 quarts?

also how do i identify its a c6?

thanks!!

Please stop calling it a "car". It's a friggin' TRUCK.

If the trans came from a mustang it was probably a floor shift model which has a different shift lever on the trans than a column shift trans has

You need to crawl under the truck and see which lever it has

If it has the floor shift lever the column shifter may be cobbled together

Type F trans fluid is more than likely the correct fluid

most early trans dip sticks will say what type of fluid to use

buy between 4 to 6 quarts as it will not go bad in a sealed container

The left over fluid can be used in the power steering

No worries. Where/when I grew up a "truck" was something you could haul a pickup in. Now city boys call anything with a bed a truck. Its all good. At least you're not driving a Chevy. :wel:
