8-5 lug
Do they make things you can bolt onto 5lugs to make it into a 8lug? Like a conversion kit. Just bolt it onto the 5lug

do you want to dually the front and rear?
A 3/4 ton rear axle should bolt right into your truck. Dually wheels should fit right onto that. I can double check that this weekend if you like.
I kinda think that if you used '73-up F250 parts (the entire front I-beams, I mean), they might bolt right into the front, and give you disc brakes to boot.

Well my friend has 99F350 wheels and tires (31"s) and I would also like it an 8 lug just for convienance, its alot easier(aroud here anyways) to find 8lugs other then 5 because allmost everyone drives newer model big trucks, like 3500's and F250's and 350's. I know the lug patern isent the same for 3500's, just saying. I also have the conversion kit to turn a 8 lug into a dually. Its been sitting in my garage for awhile with no use to it.
One more question. I dont know the year, but the 3/4 ton F250's...When they had 5lugs those few years. Do they have the same lug patern as my truck?

re: 8-5 lug
are you talking about the 1997 or98 f250, if so they wern't considered f250superduty, they were actually f250 light duty with 7 lugs, and they had f150 heavyduty that year in 7lug. standard duty 150 was 5 lug. but as for lug pattern size , not sure.

Im not exactly sure. I will have to ask him later tonight. I think it was a 150, anyways, it was an older model, maybe late 80's.

re: 8-5 lug
If you want to use 8 lug wheels up front you are going to have to go with F250 spindles. I don't remember if the I-beams are the same or not, but I would just swap the whole assembly in.
An F250-F350 rear end will bolt right up.

Re: re: 8-5 lug
I'll try to straighten it out. As most know the "pre" Superduties ended in '97 this was the boxy '92-'97 style. There were no F350's or Superduties for that matter made in '98. '99 brought about the Superduty name and the new body style. Now Ford made a F250LD (low Duty) that looked identical to the '97-'98 F150 but it had 7 lug rims and better torsion bars. After '98 They changed the F250LD to a 7700 F150, because it had 7700 GVW capability. The only change was really the nameplate the rims stayed 7 lug as well as the weight ratings remaining.67heavystepside wrote:are you talking about the 1997 or98 f250, if so they wern't considered f250superduty, they were actually f250 light duty with 7 lugs, and they had f150 heavyduty that year in 7lug. standard duty 150 was 5 lug. but as for lug pattern size , not sure.
My understanding is the mid 80's 8 lugs will fit on the bumpside hubs but I still haven't nailed this down for sure, I also think the '97+ F150 135mm 5 lugs may also fit on the bumpside F150's. One other thing, the '97-'98 F150 had 12mm lugs where as the '99-'03s had 14mm lugs and of course were all lugcentric not hub like our bumpsides.
Maybe we can straigten out what Ford rims will fit on my '72 8 lug hubs, I get confused on whether the newer '80's+ will work or not. I think I have an early 80's rim somewhere I should just try and see. I also have some '92 and '93 rims I could try.

Yes there were but it was a short production run as the 99 model year started early.Galaxie64 wrote:I'll try to straighten it out. As most know the "pre" Superduties ended in '97 this was the boxy '92-'97 style. There were no F350's or Superduties for that matter made in '98.
That was the F-250 Light Duty and the older body was called the F-250 Heavy Duty.Galaxie64 wrote:'99 brought about the Superduty name and the new body style. Yep, all 8-lug F-250s and F-350s through the end of the 1992-1998 body style.Galaxie64 wrote:My understanding is the mid 80's 8 lugs will fit on the bumpside hubs but I still haven't nailed this down for sure.
Nope, 5.5 inches equals about 140mm. It won't work as the 97-03 wheels are off by about 5mm too small.Galaxie64 wrote:I also think the '97+ F150 135mm 5 lugs may also fit on the bumpside F150's. I know clear upto 92 if it had 5x5.5" lug pattern the rims will mount on anything with 5x5.5 unless you have the smaller hub on the newer one. They made two sizes of hubs in the 80's i beleive.

Not on the trucks, they didn't (at least in my travels on the 2WD). The 4x4s for sure didn't change through 96.
Only on the cars they did.
5x5.5" was used on the F-150s clear through 96.
BTW: Econoline vans still use the 5x5.5" lug pattern on the E-150s and the E-250/E-350 still use the 8x6.5" lug pattern to this day.
06 Econoline wheels fit on Fullsize Broncos (all of which were 4x4) so they will fit on our Bumpsides, for sure.
