just put a new distributor in my shopping cart at LMC parts.
any words of wisdom or words of warning?
Can I plan on dropping it in or should I get the points condenser etc...? Think I should do the install or should I take it to the garage and pay an actual mechanic to do it?
Id love to hear your feedback.

Re: New Dizzy from MSD!!!!!!
I actually ordered a Ford FE Ready-to-Run Distributor
Part # 8595 from MSD.
Sounds like I can just drop it in and go..... but wait! I removed and systematically destroyed my old dizzy. Can you tell me how to get this one in and running without knowin where the rotor was pointing when I took the old one out?
Noticed in the instructions for the MSD That they wanted me to mark the position of the old dizzy... oops!!
I’ve got two weeks before it arrives.....

Re: New Dizzy from LMC?
1. Turn the engine until the 10 degree BTDC mark on the harmonic balancer is at the pointer on the timing cover. Make sure this is on the compression stroke.
2. Mark the dizzy where the #1 plug is.
3. When you put the new dizzy in, point the rotor to the mark, then turn it counter-clockwise by about 20 degrees.
4. Push the dizzy in. You might have to turn the crankshaft back and forth until it drops, to line the dizzy up with the oil pump shaft. As it drops, the rotor will turn. Make sure the rotor points to the mark you made earlier.
Use this as a starting point only. Let us know how the MSD works out. I've been very curious about this specific unit myself.

Re: New Dizzy from LMC?
I'm seeing some conflicting information.
[quote="72bumbee"Can I plan on dropping it in or should I get the points condenser etc...?
I actually ordered a Ford FE Ready-to-Run Distributor Part # 8595 from MSD. [/quote]
The MSD #8595 is an electronics ignition distributor. No points, condenser, etc. The distributor requires a full 12v source voltage. You have to be sure and bypass the pink resistor wire on the ignition switch. I like to run all my electronic ignition distributor through a relay to draw power directly from the battery. It's simple and takes all the variables of your original wiring out of the picture.
Looking at the installation instructions, it seems to be a pretty simple install. Follow Joseph's above instructions and it should get you running.
