360 sawp for 4bt

Post by Bo1 »

Hey I'm new to this forum and just searching for info. I have a 68 f100 with a worn out 360. I'm looking into swapping it out with a 4bt. Its my daily driver and have no other reasoning as to why I want to do it other then it would be cool..... I think. Has anyone on here done this and did it work out ok? This is the ford I have. Also open for other avenues.

I'm VERY happy with the 4BT in mt F-250 I have more usable power that the 390 that was built as a tow motor and I'm getting OVER double the mileage now BUT.... good running used 4BT's are getting rare AND pricy. I was luckey enough to find a running bread van only 350 miles from home so I was pretty sure of what I was getting the prices I see 4BT's going for and the stories that I have heard from people that have paid top dollar for "good running" 4BT take outs have been mixed at best to the point that if I couldn't drive it first i would never pay more that what I thought was a "core' price for one :2cents:
there are equipment 4BT's that come up fairly often but most of them will require a on road injection pump that will not be cheap but is an option.
The 4BT is a nice fit in the bump engine compartment and not a lot heavier than a FE ~200# +/-.
The mileage was for me the big decider I just recently rebuilt my injection pump and injectors and on the last tank i logged 1010 miles of mixed driving of 60% around town and 40% forest service roads and got 18.6 MPG in a 8,000# truck so in yours over 20 should be easy to achieve so depending on how much you drive that is a nice perk...but the 4BT is as loud as a FE with headers and free flowing exhaust and vibrates quite a bit at idle.
It was the best mod I've done to my truck in the 26 years I've owned it but wasn't cheap or easy...but to me was worth it
