Show me your power steering and AC

Post by pockets »

Hey everybody! Currently in a fight with a 71' F250 2wd trying to install factory power steering on a truck that didn't come with it. 360 engine. Already got the gear box and column swapped out. in the future this truck will have AC installed as well so I need to make sure I don't have to do the work twice.

Right now I can not figure out which pulleys I am supposed to have on the power steering pump and the crank snout. I have one pump that came off of an early 70's truck that has a small (4"wish) pulley with an inverted dish to it. with it mounted on the truck it lines up perfectly between the 2nd and 3rd sheave on the crank pulley. is there a 4 sheave pulley out there that I'm supposed to have? or do I use a different pump pulley?

My understanding is that the power steering pump runs its own belt to the crank and the AC is supposed to use the 3rd sheave on the crank, the idler. and the compressor.

I also have another pump that has a 6"wish pulley that is set back toward the pump and aligns with the second sheave of the crank but the lower radiator hose is in the way. I have seen other trucks with a lower hose that sets back a little before turning out toward the radiator. is this what i'm supposed to have?
HELP!!

Yes they did make an add on 4th pulley for the crank
They are hard to find and can be pricey

I've seen that picture but that AC bracket is not the same as what I have. I believe that is a later style.

Although I did found out that a properly made lower rad hose for this truck sets back about half and inch after coming off the water pump which would allow plenty of clearance for the PS pump to run on the second sheave of the crank with the dishes pulley. 7AA I believe?

You can also mount your ac low on the passenger side using a bracket made by a member here. His handle is tylerb43. A bonus when using his bracket is it eliminates having to modify the alternator bracket when you upgrade to a 3g.

Has anyone looked into electric power steering for our trucks? :? I know there is a kit for the 67-72 Mustangs but it would sure be nice in my '67 4X4.

I finally gave up looking and went with billet pulleys from CVFRacing. Image

They're nice but I wish I could have found a stock set. You'll notice I've mounted the ac compressor low on the passenger side which I think cleans things up nicely.

I spent a weekend looking through the yards in NorCal and didn't find anything. Most of the yards looked like they had cleaned house recently. Like an idiot I didn't think to post a wanted ad in the classifieds.

Seems like I can find the pulley I need but the applications all say 68-69. Wouldn't this be the same pulley as a 71?
