Autolite 2100 needed!!!

Post by mulletmobile »

OK, getting ready to take the carburetor off for a rebuild. When doing so, I wanted to convert back to the heat tube style choke from the manual the original owner installed a couple of decades ago. The cable has a couple of kinks and it does not work as well as intended and I wanted to go back to the original setup. When it was converted to the manual choke, the innards were removed from the choke housing, including the piston set-up for the choke on the inside.

I am really wanting to go back to the heat tube operation, but I will need the innards. If I can not locate a reasonable priced one for spare parts, can I convert to the electric choke without the piston? I know the ports for the tubes will have to be capped off, they are already capped off due to the manual choke.

I am just learning the intricacies of this carb in prep for the rebuild, but would this create any vacuum leak if the piston is not in the housing? The PO included a rebuild kit for the the carb (Wagner brand) and I was hoping to not have to buy anything else for the build, but now I may have to but an already rebuilt carb if I can't find parts or a core for parts.

If anyone has a carb out there they are willing to part with let me know. I need one for a 1971 F250 with a 360 and the part number on my carb is D1TFAKA. Any help is appreciated and I will throw a couple of pics up later this morning as work allows.

sargentrs, Thanks for heads up. I had seen the site before, but there are a lot out selling pieces and it is good to know who to go to for quality parts. I have a complete carb en-route to me from a member on another board. I also picked up a free Autolite 2100 (C8AF-C from a 1969 full size Ford) from a co-worker. A mutual friend of ours gave him the already rebuilt carb he had in storage in his old repair shop behind his NAPA dealership. It is missing the accelerator pump and linkage to the relief valve (which was also plugged shut for an unknown reason). At any rate, I will probably go through the site to pick up the parts to rebuild my original and still have one to run on the motor while I figure out what to do with the free carb. (I think the free one was for 360/390 motors but seems pretty anemic with a 1.14 venturi size.

This is the messed up converted to manual choke one I have:

With really cool linkage reinforcements:

Here is the freebie:

Gotta love the messes POs leave for us to clean up :cuss: I've also bought 2 carbs from these guys http://www.guaranteedcarburetors.com/ and they've both run great right out of the box. That freebie carb looks like a winner if you can find the parts you need. Good luck!

I have one I'm willing to part with out of a 72 f100 360. But I won't have it in my possession for a week at least. My bump is getting finished up at the engine shop now and still needs a few more days until it's ready. I upgraded to an edelbrock intake and Holley 4 BBL electric 600 CFM carb.

If you still need one of course, which it appears you don't.

Jealous on the intake and bigger carb. The is the eventual route. Right now trying to undo the PO's work. It all had it's reason for being done, a lot of it being the location he lived and his usage (5,000' in the Sierra's and camping). Now I am down at almost sea level and it is my around town driver. I am going to keep it pretty stock until I am sure I have caught on to all the things that need to be reworked for modern day. At least he had the good sense to put in a Pertronix Ignitor in the dizzy. It is all coming together. Jbott, let me know when you get it back. If I have any issues I may be interested in making a deal.

With the free one, I am going to have to pull the top off and just see exactly what was done with fuel bowl vent system to see if it is usable to me. It doesn't have some stuff, but I think there is a reason for what it is missing. I just have to figure out how to work it. I do not want to throw something at it just to hope I have found a fix for a small problem. Let the adventure begin.

It was never my original plan back in March when I started the rebuild. But the intake needed to be machined and it would have been $250 or something like that. I figured it was better to upgrade. That's why I got the Holley electric choke carb. I had to do that pretty much with every component. I put headers on because the exhaust manifolds were leaky. Which then forced a mini starter.

Mission creep, that evil component of working on cars. My Trans Am started with a battery tray replacement that revealed a corroded rad support and radiator. Blew off the front sheet metal then pulled a valve cover...motor rebuild and new everything else. Been 5 years now.
