Traction Bars For A 1970 2WD F-100 ?

Post by Wilma-Colorado »

Does anyone out there have a source for bolt-on traction bars for our 1970 2WD F-100 long box ? Checked Summit, Jegs, and Googled my fingers off looking for something - no luck.

Do we have to fabricate ?

James Duff has a set intended for 4wds but will work on a 2wd.

I have the James Duff bars on my 2wd. Fixed my wheel hop. I really like them because they are hidden up in the wheel well.

For you guys that used the Duff traction bars, do you have a factory ubolt spring plate on top of the leaves?

Mine has a cast saddle plate below the axle and square shoulder ubolts that go on top of the spring. I have horrible axle wrap and wheel hop even in wet conditions, along with horrible clutch chatter that the wrap amplifies greatly. I was planning on making some long bars that mimic the bars intended for a Lightning, but these are even cheaper than I can make. As long as I can easily bolt them up and don't have to fabricate a whole bunch, I think I'll go with these Duff bars.

Guhfluh, I have factory u bolt spring plate on top of the springs. To be honest, my '69 is actually sitting on a '74 F100 frame. But they should be similar, if not identical minus the flex-o-matic springs. The only modification is on the front leaf spring perch. You drill 3 holes for the 3/8" bolts. You can see everything in the picture from the link. The white traction bars in the pic are exactly how mine are setup. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. Those were the ones I was looking at, but it looks like I will have to get or make new spring plates and ubolts. I also have a modified front spring hanger, so I will have to see what I'll be able to do with that. I do have a welding machine and some flat steel that I can always put to use!
