67-70 steering wheel on a 72 ??

Post by ironhorse2022 »

Hello all,

I'm a first time poster here and looking forward to getting to know some of you. I have a 72 F100 custom (360/C6 auto/PS) and need to replace my broken 2-spoke steering wheel. I've been looking for months for a clean used one and they seem to be in short supply :( I see that Dennis Carpenter reproduces the them for a pretty penny and there are a half dozen parts suppliers that carry them.

My question is whether anybody has tried to put a 67-70 3-spoke wheel/horn ring on a 71 or 72 steering column ? I prefer the 3 spoke look and originality isn't that important to me (although I do like using OE parts). However, I'll stick with a 2 spoke wheel if it's the only way to keep a functional horn and turn signals.

Also, if anybody has a clean used OE wheel (3 spoke or 2 spoke) they are looking to sell, please let me know.

Thanks for any help / advice,

John.

It'll work but you need to lop off the very tip of the shaft so it'll clear the horn mechanism. I'm not sure what's needed for the horn, never got that far because I think it's not grounded correctly.
