Front Coil Springs

Post by zebsligh »

Just finished puting in motor in my 70 F-100 and notice that the truck sits to one side. Pass side lower than Driv side. The driver side is very hard to move up and down but the pass side moves up and down like it should. I have tryed 2 sets of new shocks, same thing. Is there a difference in the coils springs. I rebuilt the hole front in with new parts (ie bushings). I know there is a weight difference in engines, but the front be even lower because I went from a inline 6 to a 545 BBF. Any help would be welcome.

Did you install new springs or did you reuse the old springs? If you reused the old springs, and completely removed them from the truck, before putting them back in, you MAY have gotten them swapped. --the stock coil springs are side specific, due to the roughly 2" offset of the engine/transmission to the right of the trucks centerline.

My '69 F100 has a 240 and a C-4. The left side coil spring (unloaded) is 17" tall and has a wire diameter of .6150". The right side coil spring is 16 " tall with a wire diameter of .6465".

More recently, I pitched my front drums for a disc brake front suspension from a '77 F100. I replaced my stock front coils with brand new Moog CC808 progressive rate springs. They're pretty inexpensive and work a lot better than my old constant rate front coils.

Hey thanks for the reply. After a little checking around I run into a old Ford mechanic and that was the first thing he told me was to swap the springs around if was going to stay with the stock ones.
