Looking for part with no luck

Post by hotrodfeguy »

I am in need of part # 3524 in the following diagram even LMC did not have it ! I just plain need it. I converted from a 3spd man to a Automatic trans and the rebuilt one came naked at the end of it. So I have nothing to bolt the rag joint to. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance everyone.

Yes but it is supposed to be a bolt on by the looks of the diagram. But this is my situation right here.

Hmmm. Mine is not bolted. Just looks like a press fit on to the spines end. Your shaft looks tomb splined too. I'll have to look for some pics to see what the end of my other looks like. Truck is up in my shop at the cabin right now.
Maybe someone else here knows more about how those are supposed to be configured and if they differed from year to year.

Yea if you look close your is fully splined 360 on the shaft. This shaft has a flat slot to it where the bolt can clamp that part to the spline shaft. Just not having any luck with finding that part or PN. I saw it in the 73-79 LMC catalog but they do not sell the part or even list it. Just a pic of it lol Teasing me. :x

I went through this same problem when I took my stock '69 F100 automatic steering column out and replaced it with a tilt column from a '78 F150.

I didn't have the rag joint with the flange bolted on BOTH sides of the rag joint. The replacement rag joints don't come with the flanges bolted on both sides --only bolted on one side so, they're useless.

I finally ended up buying a 3/4"-36 x 3/4"-36 stainless steel Borgeson joint.

New rag joint on left but, only has the bolted flange for the steering gear box side, not one on the steering shaft side. Borgeson joint on the right.

The Borgeson joint has an angle to it, in this picture, because I didn't have the steering column bolted up to the bottom of the dash at the time I took this picture.

Borgeson p/n SS16N-736X736 113434. I got it from JEGS --$87.97, no sales tax and free shipping.

This truck is manual steering but I would assume it is the same. I counted 30 spline till it went flat as you can see in the pic for the bolt to pass through I think on the column side. And 36 spline on the box end 3/4 for both.
Thank you so much man that was perfect. Thats why this sight is awesome.
