Clunking sound

Post by Bvh56 »

Hi all. I put new front coil springs on my 68 f250. I now have a clunking/rattle sound when I hit bumps. Anyone else have this occur? Or any ideas on what it is? Thanks

Something is loose or missing... like the lil metal strap at the top of the spring which holds it to the spring bucket.

Shocks are tight. Straps are on and tight. :hmm:

Now that your springs and shocks are new and back to original you may have some bushings that are not aligned.... :2cents:

Check your pivot axle bushings. They may be bad. Mine are shot and make the same noise. New ones will be here tomorrow! :-)

My king pin bushings needed replacing and I had a "clunk" every time I would hit a reflector in the middle of the road. Only on the left side though, right side was fine. Might want to jack up your front end and see if there's any play in the king pins, too.

Ok thanks. I haven't got a chance to get it up on the lift and look yet. I'll check these things out.

same here. Only clunked when in reverse and touching the brakes or if I hit a bump/pothole/lane divider reflector the right way. Turns out my bushing and my truck on the drivers side apparently decided they were no longer compatible and the bushing, in entirety, decided to part ways with my truck.

The suspension is currently undergoing a Energy Suspension rehabilitation.
