Dana 60 Hub

Post by Flightman91 »

Hello,

I'm planning to put discs on my Dana 60, however it seems I need hubs. Everything seems to say I can take the hub off my drums and use them on the rotors. However the drums I have don't seem to look like the ones I'm seeing online, and the drums and hubs seem to be all one cast..... Help?

They may look like one peice but often times once you punch the lug studs back out the backside with a 5lb hand sledge the hub and drum seperate.

Just so I'm sure, my drums look like this.

I just pound out the studs with the hand sledge and the hubs should come off correct?

First, pull the axle shaft out of there, that can take some persuasion. Then, the retaining nut and lock washer come out next, then the wheel bearings and drum assembly can be pulled off the axle housing.

The hub and drum are separate units. Once the drum is off the truck (or axle) and on the floor, grab some 2x4s and set the drum open side/lip on the wood. If you want to re-use the lug studs either get a brass hammer or use a large ball-peen hammer and a brass drift to drive the lug studs out. If you use a hard steel sledge you can booger up the threads on the ends of the lug studs.

Once that's done you should be able to pull the hub out of the drum.

If you're working the axle pictured in your post, you might want to invest in a bottle of Aerokroil. Best penetrating oil I've ever used and brother I tried them all.

So I finally got these off the old drums. Quick question, I messed up 2 of the bolt holes on one of the hubs while taking it out. The hubs came off of 2 1/2 inch drums, can I use one hub from the 2 inch drums? Are these the same hub? They are both Full float Dana 60 rear ends.

Would it be easier to grind down the messed up part and re tap the hole?
