Wheels and Tire Size
Hi, New to FORDification and Ford's. I recently purchased a 1972 F250 Camper special. I would like to replace the rims and tires with something wider. My question is can anyone tell me what is the widest tire/wheel combination I can fit without using any lift kits or modifications. The current tire size is 9.50 16.5LT and the wheels have 8 bolts. Thanks.

I do not know what the WIDEST tires you can use without a lift are...but you can run 265 75 16's, or 17's without much in the way of problems. Not sure if you would have fender clearance issues with the 17's or not, due to the wheel offset differences, but we have put the 16s on a 71 f250 without problems before. On a set of prostar 16" 8 lugs.
Oh, I am assuming you are 4x2. If you are 4x4, you can run a much larger tire without a lift. I ran 35 14.5 16.5's Mickey Thompson Baja's on my 68 4x4, and only had a little bit of rub with wheel full turned and going over a small bump. (alot with a BIG bump!
)
Cheers!

When in doubt, hit the gas. It may not be the right answer, but at least it ends the suspense!!

I run a 295/50R15 on my '71 F-100 2WD with out too much issues. I do get a little rub with the wheel turned and going over a bump but that could just be the worn out springs and shocks

I've got 31x10.5x15s on my 71 F100. A little rub at full lock but thats it. I would think you could easily run something a little bigger on the 250.
