'79 to '70 dash board swap?
Is it possible to swap a '79 model dash into a '70 model truck? I know it would be a lot of work. Just wondering if the dimensions were about the same.

The pad only. No dont bother. The entire metal dash. Ive seen a older dash put into a newer truck. Worth it. I dont know. Ur reason for doing it may be good. I dont know. The work would consist of removing winshields to remove spot welds. And figuring out how to connect heater controls and instrument clusters.

On mine I was going to use a double DIN radio so modified the front face. Changed my mind so I just sawzalled across the top and replaced the face. A whole lot easier vs. removing the glass and digging at the spot welds.

The pad doesn't interchange between the two generations...they're shaped differently.
The metal part of the dash is the same dimensionally...but not structurally. The dentside dash is bolted in, whereas the bumpside dash is welded in with about a kajillion spotwelds. Can it be done? Sure...it's been done before. But it's an awful lot of work.
Here's a few pictures I saved from an E-bay auction a few years ago where someone swapped in a dentside dash and firewall. (Notice the stacked frames!)

Re: '79 to '70 dash board swap?
I am swapping in a dash from a '57 Fairlane. It is a bolt in like the dent. My plan is to cut the dash off at the base of the windshield. This leaves the portion that is spot welded thus maintaining the thickness of the area around the windshield for the seal. Build mount tabs for the firewall and bolt the Fairlane dash in as it was in the car.
