Spare Tire Placement?

Post by Subzero »

On my truck ever since I bought it it's always had the spare in the bed of the truck. I'm guessing it should go under the bed behind the rear axle but there's nothing but a curved bar on the frame that is between two crossmembers. There's not really any hardware on the frame to mount it as I'm guessing it was removed to run the old dual exhaust system out the back which would of blocked access to the spare tire. Where is the spare supposed to go and how could I find the hardware to put it back on the frame?

Thanks, looks like I'm missing all of the parts, I need the crossbar and the long bolts. Maybe eBay has something?

It could have been mounted like mine, in the bed, front driver side standing up in front of fender well. You would have 2 holes on inside of bed rail and 2 holes in bottom of bed.

front bumper mount like the camper specials?

nothing worse than having to crawl under your truck to free up a rusty stuck spare in the middle of rain/snow/sleet/brimstone

There's no holes in the bed but I wouldn't mind putting them in there to mount it, I have a hitch on the frame in the back and that might make things a little tight for a spare tire and be hard to access. Also less hassle to get to it if I ever needed it.

I plan on doing mine like above and use a power window motor to lower it. Probably toss a switch in the glove box. It's still on my plans list.
