car four speed top loader into truck?

Post by Project8046 »

Trying to put a 4 speed toploader behind my 72 390 truck. What is all involved in doing this? I know i can't use a truck bell housing but will the clutch and everything lineup with a car bell housing on it?

Are you using a small or big block toploader

If you have the small block toploader you CAN and should use the truck bell

If you are using a big block toploader you will need a car bellhousing

Some bellhousings will restrict the use of the 11 1/5 inch clutch and require you to use a smaller disc

What clutch bolt pattern is drilled into the flywheel

And just to clarify I am talking about car transmissions

Top-Loader 4-spd can be wide ratio 2.78:1 1st gear or, close ratio 2.32:1 1st gear.
