crown vic front end swap with big block

Post by raypatterson »

I'm looking into doing the crown Vic front end swap on my 67 f100. From what little info I've dug up looks like most people use small blocks in the trucks. Will this swap work with a 460 big block?

When you say "small block", are you talking about a motor smaller than a 460? Because a LOT of the swaps are done with a 390 and that is a big block motor. It is smaller than the 460 and weighs a little less, but it is still a big heavy motor. It is not a small block motor.

As for whether or not the crown vic front end will work with a 460, I would assume that it would as it works just fine with a 390. If I remember correctly, I believe elgemcdlf has a 460 in his truck with a crown vic front end... Check his build thread to be sure, but I am 99% sure that is the case.

From pics I've found off Google looks like people either have a 302 or 351w or just use the 4.6 out of the crown Vic. That's what I meant by a small block. I'll check out his truck thanks for the info. How are people connecting the steering column to the crown Vic front end?

found this on another forum. accuracy not guaranteed but seems reasonable

221-302W = 460

302 Boss = 500

351W = 525

351C-Boss = 550

351M-400 = 575

332-428FE = 625

427 HEMI = 680

429-460 = 720

429-Boss = 635 (alum heads)

considering the LTD/vics handle the 351M weight from the factory and how over-engineered a front end has to be to pass safety testing i wouldn't think 145 pounds would make any difference. i would feel perfectly comfortable with it. going with alum heads/intake would put your 460 near or at the stock weight of the 351M too if you are worried about it
