leaking seal

Post by DDAN1130 »

I have gear oil leaking on the back side of the front tire 69 F10 4x4. it's dripping from the bottom of the steering knuckle. It's an open knuckle dana 44. I did the wheel bearings when I got the truck and replaced seals on the outside. pulled everything back apart today and it's dry on the outside of the hub so it's not that seal. just wondering how difficult that axle seal is to get to and if there's anything that i should know before I start pulling everything apart? thanks folks!

I have a 69 shop manual and have seen that section but since I don't have a 4x4 I didn't get too in-depth. If you don't have the factory shop manual, get one first, you WILL NOT be disappointed. Nothing like having good directions. I think I paid $75 with shipping for all the volumes on my truck. I believe there's electronic versions but I like having the book in the garage near what I'm working on. Old school I guess.
