Question on strange brake fitting

Post by Madman »

OK, Sanity check here.....On my DANA 60 rear disc brake conversion, the calipers are from a El Dorado (like 74-79 or something like that). I checked the fitting size, and it seems to be 7/16'-20 (a fine thread 7/16 bolt threads in perfectly)...but I do not see fittings in my area that are this size, parts store says they should be 7/16"-24.....which don't thread in more than a single turn.....what am I missing? I don't believe the threads should seal, that's what the flare is for, so am I in left field or is this just something I have to hunt down?

Thanks

According to the O'Reilly Auto Parts website, a '77 El Dorado caliper has a 7/16"-24 brake line fitting size.

Local parts stores generally don't carry 7/16"-24 flare nuts for 3/16" brake tubing/flexible brake lines but, you can get the needed fitting here:

I tried the 7/16-24, and they really didn't fit well, I did purchase some and brought them home. Think I will take the caliper down to the part store and look it over wit them, or perhaps a brake specialist.
