Spindle Bearing Wear

Post by CV1186 »

All, I'm in the process of rebuilding my 68 front end. I have all the parts and will be using DJM beams to lower the front. A previous owner at some point in the trucks life converted the brakes to discs from as far as I can tell a 1973 or 74 model. The problem is that they used the nylon bushings and failed to keep those lubricated, so the bearing on the left spindle seized, that same seized bearing proceeded to cut a groove into the spindle bearing face. The spindle otherwise is in excellent shape and I know it will be difficult getting a single spindle. I read the article on reconditioning spindles in the tech section, unfortunately I'm not a machinist, so that doesn't really help. My thought is to weld the area around the bushing bore to replace the material worn by the bearing and then file or have someone machine the bearing face. Any thoughts?
