1967 inside door handles
Both screws have now snapped off inside of the shafts of my inside door handles. I have not found replacement shafts for this 1 year only truck and so far; the attempts to drill out the broken screws have not gone well. I have seen that the shafts from a 53-58 are available and while I know those are not secured with a center screw but a screw on the side off the handle is there a way to make them work? Or does anyone have a lead or extra set of shafts I could buy? I'm pretty sure I have permanently hosed up the ones I have and I don't want to use vise grips.
Thanks for any help.

If you just messed up the threads there are thread repair kits. Not cheap, but an option.

No thread repair kit will fix the mess I created. It is going to require new shafts

Re: 1967 inside door handles
The one used for 66 thunderbirds and mustang pony interior had a screw holding the handle on. Don't know if the latch and handle could be made to fit, but you can get one for under $20 bucks if you want to try.

Re: 1967 inside door handles
There is a junkyard close to me with a few '67's. I didn't look to see if they had any in good shape. I may be able to look at the beginning of April if you don't find any before then.

No biggie! I have a '67 so I know that parts can be hard to come by. I may have an extra on my old driver's door. I'll look this weekend.

Maybe someone with a wire welder can weld the holes up, then drill and tap the holes again. ?
And for future reference they make a reverse cut drill bit set .
If the screws aren't rusted too bad you put the drill in reverse and once the bit grabs, the bolt will back out.
if it doesn't , you at least have a pilot hole.

Pick-N-Pull in Waco has a 67 and a 65 and a 62. I'm going down there next week. I looked at the 67, it was fairly intact, doors were still on it. I don't remember about door hardware though.

Re: 1967 inside door handles
Trying to use a reverse bit to pull out the snapped small screw is how I screwed up. Even after having a conversation with a machinist on how most of the repairs they do for the average person is removing and repairing "easy outs", the downfall is on a part that small it will end up costing more than just finding something that can work. I was just hoping that someone at some point in time had ran into this and figure out a way to cross reference something that would work. Since I am in OKC I guess I will pull the shaft out of my Passenger door and take it to Obsolete Ford parts and take my digital calipers with me and see if I could use one out of the Mustang.
If I just need to move a screw on the frame to make it work that is a heck of a lot easier than trying to convince a machine shop making bank on oil field equipment repair to take a break to fix 2 tiny parts. If this works it would be sweet, we could keep the look and feel of the 1 year only F100.

Yep, I agree with easy outs they are impossible to drill out . I try to stay away from them by just drilling out the broken screw. Start small and get it it centered then increase drill just before hitting threads then clean up with a tap. If you do screw up go next size bigger and retap or helicoil.

Re: 1967 inside door handles
I think '67 truck owners are a special breed. They are really dedicated and their 'So what if parts can be hard to find' attitudes almost make me want to own one . . . Almost! Maybe some day.

Maybe one from a 1961 to 66 may work ????Asillymick wrote:Trying to use a reverse bit to pull out the snapped small screw is how I screwed up.
