1967 f100 brake booster problems
I recently bought a 67 f100 came out with 240 originally. Truck has 302 unknown what year. When I bought the truck it had no pedal return on the brake pedal. Took it to local mechanic an they have tried 3 different boosters keep having pedal to rod problems. Truck has drums all four corners but the local parts store guy tells me that my core is for front disc. Parts store sent core off now we have no idea which booster we need any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
A brake booster isn't specific to drums or discs --master cylinders are but not boosters. A booster is just simply a force multiplier. In '67, discs were not available on an F100 so, the only choice you would have had, with the optional booster, would have been with drum brakes. However, the booster does not know what type of brakes you have. It's just amplifying the input of whatever force you are putting on the brake pedal.
Sounds like someone was blowing smoke or actually believes what they were telling you.
I added a dual diaphragm vacuum booster from a 1975 Ford F350 to my '69 F100 Ranger with 240 engine. It works very well with my stock 4 wheel drums but, the booster came from a truck that had discs on the front and drums on the rear. By the guy's theory, my booster should not work.

Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
I had to switch out the bigger diameter booster to run my Cobra Lemans valve covers
I searched high and low 3 hours at autozone till i found the right one
I still have the one I took of of the truck if you can not find the smaller one anywhere

Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
With the correct parts, it should be an easy swap. Using the 67 only booster and pedal rod and using the non-cantilever booster to firewall brackets, that should be it. Check and verify that you actually have a 67 pedal assembly in the truck before going any further. The Tech/Tutorials section at the top of the page will have pictures and descriptions to show you the difference. 67 only boosters can still be purchased at auto parts stores and the brackets can be purchased from Flashback 100's. The firewall hole boot will have to be custom sourced or from another truck.

Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
You are mistaken, brake boosters are specific to disc or drum. They will work with the wrong one but not exactly as they were designed to. In 67, the F100 used a C7TZ-2005-C (2505779) as they only made a drum brake unit (no discs that year). In 68 they used a C8TZ-2005-B (2506763) for F100/250 with drum brakes and a C8TZ-2005-A (2506795) was used for a disc brake F250 (there were no disc brakes on F100 yet). Boosters are definitely disc or drum but a 67 booster is drum because they did not have discs so does the truck have a later booster or is the shop full of dog doo? Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
The booster is a force multiplier to the pistons of the MC --whatever the MC may be. The MC design is specific to the brake type in use. The booster itself is not specific to the brakes in use.Hawkrod wrote:You are mistaken, brake boosters are specific to disc or drum. Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
Perhaps you did not understand the information I provided. Your answer is incorrect as the boosters are calibrated for the application. Ford used a different booster for disc brakes than they did for drum brakes as the information I provided clearly shows. You are correct that the booster is just a force multiplier but the amount of force varies between boosters and Ford calibrated them for the application. As I noted, you can use them for the wrong application and it will work but it will not work exactly as it was designed to and pedal pressure required from the driver will change from teh original specification. Also note that using a link to a third party generic supplier as evidence is irrelevant as what they sell had nothing to do with original design and they do not care if it requires more or less force from the user to stop a vehicle, that really is not a valid statement on original parts. Please look it up in a Ford parts book and you will find that I am correct. Hawkrodultraranger wrote:The booster is a force multiplier to the pistons of the MC --whatever the MC may be. Re: 1967 f100 brake booster problems
I suppose you'll have to explain what the specific calibration difference is, you mention, between a drum booster vs. a disc booster?
