no-spin rear?

Post by Bill Ramsey »

I have a 69 F250 with open 10 bolt rear, it sucks. I found a junked '72 C20 with a No-Spin rear, 10 bolt round cover, for $100. would it be worth it to adapt this rear to my ford? or can I simply take the locker out of the chevy, and install in the ford? both are 3/4 ton trucks. Thanks!

Just get a locker like power trac from Richmond. Or find a trac lock rear from another ford. I wouldn't think a chevy locker will fit in a ford rear end

Dude, gotta straighten out your use of terminlogy to avoid confusion. Your rig has a Dana 60. Yes it has a 10 bolt cover but referring to it as a 10 bolt is wrong. A "10 bolt' commonly refers to GM's light duty rear axle like in Camaros and Malibus. Its big brother is the 12 bolt... a heavier duty, performance oriented axle.

And the term 'no spin' is a term used by Dodge, IIRC.

Lastly, a locker is different from a limited slip which is what you may be referring to.

The 3/4 ton Chevys did not come with a Dana 60. Chevy had their own rearend that had a 10.5 in ring gear & only came in 2 gear ratios. 4.10 & 4.56. The thing is damn near indestructible, but the lack of replacement gearsets is a pain in the butt.
I had a '72 3/4 ton Suburban that I absolutely loved. You could tow a building with a 327, but no matter what, it only got 8 mpg. It needed Overdrive!
If common sense was really common, wouldn't everybody be using it?

yes i know its a dana 60, and it has 10 bolts. the chevy rear is an eaton with a round cover, also 10 bolts. the eaton is a FACTORY detroit locker. G86 no spin is what it IS called.

This truck might tow a 3k lb trailer around the state at most. The 351 is nothing special and I am not gonna hot rod it. I just want OD and reliability. Help me out on these prices and give me your opinions or experiences, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
