IMHO you do not need disc brakes on the back of a 3/4-ton truck. It's just wasted money. Properly-functioning front discs and rear drums are more than sufficient for anything besides high-speed slalom racing. Yes, you could fit discs back there, but you will see negligible difference for a lot of time and money invested. Save your money for upgrades that actually make a difference.

Re: 1972 8 lug dana 44 drum to disk conversion
On my 72, I switched my front Dana 44 to a 1977 Dana 44 with factory disc brakes, I researched for month's on how to convert the 72 axle to disc brakes but it was not worth all the work to convert it, so I just found a 1977 axle and had it rebuilt.
I also switched my rear Dana 60 to disc brakes, It made it the smoothest, quickest stopping old truck in town, and YES it was worth doing it. I added a few pictures of front and rear axle for you to see the results.
And to answer your question before you ask, there are no parking brakes on the rear disc, I added in the rear brake system a Park-Loc Hydraulic Brake that releases when you press on the brake pedal.
More info on the Park-Loc http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Park-Lok- ... ,1970.html
I don't use it unless I have to park on a hill or somewhere unsafe.

I am of an age now that most of life's lessons were learned the hard way;
Life is hard, but it’s harder when you’re stupid.
Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear or a fool from any direction.
Never ask how stupid someone is 'cause they'll turn around and show you.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
If you had the choice “Looks or Brains” take the Brains, Looks will get you thru the first half, but Brains will last a lifetime.
