leaking cab

Post by dotcentral »

Got caught in a hard driving rain this afternoon and noticed a leak. water was running along the edge of the passenger side floor vent box where it meets the kick panel. I have cleaned out the cowl, so its not leaves clogging up the cowl & floor vent.

What are possible areas to check? Is it water entering the cowl and not draining out the bottom? the kick panel to vent gasket being old and not sealing?

It has quit raining so I'll go out and take a peak and see if I can find out where its coming from.

Well, dumb mistake, easy to fix I think. I didn't all the bolts back in the floor vent because I'm getting ready to patch the floor boards & paint the inside of the cab and will need to pull it out again when doing that.

I took off the floor vents in the kick panels. To get the drivers side off I had to unbolt the parking brake pedal and push it toward the center of the truck. Then its just reach in through the holes with your hand and scoop it out, or get a shop vac and vacuum it out. I used a vacuum, but it still took a lot of poking in the cavity with a long screwdriver to loosen up years of debris. I bet I got over a gallon bucket full of crap out of there.

After doing this, the next time I drove the truck, it was like a bag of confetti exploded in the cab. Little bits of leaves and dirt where swirling around inside the cab. I was on my way to work, so I had to go back home, change clothes and cleanup, and take the other car.

I wasn't gonna say anything but now that Greg is here, that's funny!!!

Reason I asked is the PO of my truck cut an access panel on the passenger side to get inside and dig all the crap out. You can barely see it in this pic, at least the screw heads. http://www.fordification.com/galleries/ ... 11&pos=-30 I guess it was too much trouble for him to remove the heater vent over and over again. I've opened it up a couple times and boy what a mess! No wonder the drain holes get clogged. He left the driver side alone so I guess removing that vent wasn't such a big deal for him. I've taken the panel and vent off a couple times to clean it out, can you imagine what a virgin truck must look like in there?!

Not to steel your thread, but this reminded me of a friend I had in highschool. He always wore white cloths when hitting the town in the evening. One evening (its dusk out) he come flying out of the house and decided to kick a mole hill on his way to the car. Well it turned out the mole hill wasn't a mole hill, but a fresh pile of dog crap. Needless to say he took his now spotted with crap white clothed self back into the house to change. I still laugh so hard at that.
