How does the carpet fit behind the seat originaly?
I just installed a new NPD carpet in my 71. The carpet fits nice. How is the carpet supposed to fit behind the seat. The new carpet comes up about half way on the gas tank. I cut holes for my fuel lines. Just wanted to now for next time when is start on my 68 Ranger.

I got a carpet for my 69 on NPD....mine went up halfway on the gas tank too....but I have my doubts about the gas tank being carpeted! So I cut the carpet to fit underneath the tank and used that strip to carpet the firewall, which I think looks nice. Was your carpet a little bit too short on the width also? Mine leaves about an inch on each side. Being too lazy to return it, I just installed it anyways.

As for the gas tank area, I'm sure they just included a little bit of extra. AFAIK the carpet just goes up to the base of the tank.
So that carpet you got from NPD wasn't wide enough side-to-side? You say it was about an inch short....will it still tuck under the kick plates on each side?

Your carpet that was 1" too short on the sides is intended for a short humped floor that was used for the later C-4 transmissions I ran into the same problem and still have the carpet in the box in my garage.
If at first you don't succeed. Get another beer.

re: How does the carpet fit behind the seat originaly?
I ordered my carpet from the interior shop that redid my seat and it came back about three inches too short...When I checked the invoice it said "1974 Ford"...I brought it back and said "no,you idiot I said '1970,Ford,not 1974(not really)...She said they used the same carpets...I told her it doesn't fit so they sent it back and reordered the correct one...It came back, all nice and loop style, but still about an inch short on each side....As John Wayne would say, this caused me considerable displeasure and annoyance...I installed it anyway and I pulled and stretched 'til it fit under the sill plates, but it left a little air bubble near the tranny hump...I wish I thought of using the excess carpeting to cover the firewall cover because it's almost impossible to tuck the carpet underneath it without damaging it...By the way,I've seen two original '72 Rangers with carpeting, and they both had a separate piece of carpeting over the firewall cover...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

The NPD carpet I got was looped.....yes it does fit under the sill plates but it is an inch too short under the dash area by the vents....ohh well.

My carpet was the fuzzy kind. I ordered it for a 79 or later. My carpet alright it was not an inch to short. I wish some one made kick panel covers for that year truck .
