want to replace rubber underneath the dash any help ?
I just replaced my rubber floor mat in my truck with some carpet from NPD. the rubber or what ever it is that is under the dash that the carpet goes under is shot. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the firewall cover? The piece that runs up the firewall to the dash and from wall to wall?
You can get new firewall covers from LMC. They are molded ABS plastic.
I don't know of any source that makes the original style, though.

Get some carpet that matches what you just installed and use adhesive to attach it to the firewall cover. It'll look sharp and hide that bad cover.

you can get an original firewall cover from John's F-FUN Hundreds at www.f100.com, but they are pricey - two hundred and fifty I think! I have a molded abs one from NPD that I didn't use in my truck....it cost me 164 plus shipping since it was an oversized item. Instead of paying the shipping to send it back, I could just sell it to you if you are interested....

Keith my carpet had excess left over in the back by the gas tank. It goes up the gas tank about half way. would that be good. if so how should you get it to stick to the fire wall?

That probably wouldn't be enough, since you'd need about 18"-24" (I can't remember off the top of my head how tall that thing is). And I think you'd be better off finding a roll of carpet runner, something in the same color and style (loop or cut pile). The carpet runner rolls you get at Walmart look about the same, but are thinner, so they'll form a little easier to the firewall cover. I haven't actually tried this yet, but I DO intend to do this with my project. I was just planning on using 3M upholstery and trim adhesive to stick it to the cardboard cover.dwpave wrote:Keith my carpet had excess left over in the back by the gas tank. Keith I have used that 3m Spray adhesive on some speaker boxes. It worked good on particle board. Will you have to take the dash out to replace the fire wall cover?

No, you can't even if you wanted, since the dash assembly is welded in. You WILL have to remove a few underdash items though, like the heater box, fusebox, gas pedal (the pedal is attached to the arm with a single Phillips-head screw), etc.
