i redid my seat from vinyle at a shop...i got the foam from Joannes fabrics...it's wide enough and long enough to cover the seat or the back for 20.00...it's like 3ft x 5 ft and you can get it different thicknesses...i got 1 inch ..
the whole eveything cost me about 50 bucks

Wow, well I was looking on ebay, and I found an original looking vinyl, but this one is black and white insterts. It's 230 dollars, and the foam I need is like 50, plus another 50 for the back foam. SO I could do it for about 330, or the upolsery place here charges 650$

i have never done it. but if i were to do it i would use a kit pre made so all i had to do was slip it on and hog ring it on. i had mine redone at a place in wichita back in the early 90's for 150.00.

If you get one of the pre-made kits it's really pretty easy to do. I did mine in about three hours, and that included some runs to the hardware store. My foam was good except for a couple spots, so I got some foam from a fabric store, cut out the bad spots in the existing foam and then glued in some new foam. I also found a couple broken springs, I repaired these by overlapping the broken ends and clamping them together with some small U-bolts, it's holding together fine.

Just take your time and though you want to pull the material tight, be careful to not pull it too tight, it will tear at the seams.

I was planning to use one of those kits, but the foam is what Im most worried about. Because I probably have to redo it all. I probably could just pay someone to cut it for me.

Seattle67, Do you have a pic of the back of that seat? I have a Crew cab and want original looking covers, but the back of the front seat needs to be covered. The rear seat would be ok becasue it is hidden. If anyone has redone their crew cab seats i would like to know how.

I don't have a picture, but it just has the original black hardboard like material on the back. I would think it would be relatively easy to make something out of hardboard and cover it with material of your choice.

The back of my front seat is original and is covered with the same type of fiber board that the headliner is made out of. It has like a 1/4" strip of vinyl sewn around the edge to keep it from fraying. I repainted mine with dash paint and it turned out good for me.
