Overdrive Transmission Cross Reference Table

Post by Chasbod »

I would buy someone dinner (Whataburger ok?) if they could come up with a Table that listed the various overdrive transmissions we can use on our trucks (by engine) and what to expect when installing such as: Stock bell housing, aftermarket, or integrated?, spacing adaptor needed for input shaft? Cross member mods needed? Driveshaft mods needed? Removable transmission hump needed for clearance? What year trucks/vehicles that have the donor trannies, etc.

I'm trying to piece this info together but way too many holes in the info.

Thanks

Sounds like a good idea, but there are so many cockamamie combinations between Ford motors and transmissions that the chart would probably cover your living room floor.

Theoretically if you have a small block or 300 then you can make any other small block tranny work (except very early 5 bolt bell housing). Be most aware of balance issues and what fits what in that regard.
The only overdrive that came on an FE was the T85 3 speed with overdrive. There are threads on installing the nv4500 from a gas Dodge. I guess they are ok but for all the expense and hassle I wouldn't. I just drove one on a V10 and the 3-4 split is horrid. You have to really wind out to make the shift and still be anywhere near the powerband.
