Engine Casting Numbers

Post by cjhall »

Hello Everyone,

I need to rebuild a 302 for my 70' F100. I also need to keep my truck on the road during the rebuild process. So can anyone tell me the block casting numbers that will work for my project? Also, is a roller conversion available or recommended? Thanks in advance for your time.

Ford switched them to roller in the late 80s 86 5.0 California highway patrol Mustangs were all roller 302 180 mph cars. I know I tested everyone that was headed to the San Diego regional patrol headquarters for a year. CHP had tried Camaros but all the Porsches and Ferraris ate them for lunch out on the Desert highways so Ford built those Mustangs. I proof tested them with a CHP mechanic on a highway closed by the CHP for speed tests after we modified the computer and changed the tires.

Do a Internet search for a Mustang Forum and they will know the numbers.

1985 was the year the roller motor came out but it was stilled carbed. 1986 was the year they went to EFI. The best engines are the Explorer engines from around 1997-2001 as they have the GT 40 heads and stuff. The earlier ones in that time frame had the really good heads but they are all desirable. Dragon is right about checking the Mustang forums for specifics. One caveat, the 86 that Dragon worked on was considered by far the worst even by Ford. In 87 they redesigned the head and so the E6 head was a one year only failure. It does not have any potential for performance other than a an anchor for a small boat! There is no doubt the 86 was fun at the time but the 87 was twice the car! LOL Hawkrod oh yeah, did I mention I have an 86? LOL Fortunately mine is a 4 cylinder, they were actually faster than the 8's!The 5.0 was rated at 200hp and the 2.3 in the SVO was rated at 205hp!

Its sort of queepy, but 85 could be EFI too. They used a throttle body system for 85. I have a Mustang ex police coupe cruiser that is a flat tappet, TBI, 1985.

A whole bunch of worthless in terms of Modern Mustangs LOL but with a mild cam and some worked heads it runs OK :) no tongue in cheek, it isnt fast in any way, but its OK and burns tires like a stock CJ

Sorry, I was specifically refering to the 5.0 GT motor. I should have been more specific. The GT motor was roller cam and had a Holley carb, The lower performance motors were more generic and had the TBI. Hawkrod
