Parking brake cable removal

Post by sideoilerfe »

I have a 72 camper special that I am tearing apart. It has the factory Aux tank and the parking break cable set up is different than the ones from trucks without the tank. Any suggestions on how to remove this clip without breaking it?

Thanks.

Maybe try a hose clamp till the spreaded fingers pass through the hole then take the clamp off and then it should pass through.Good luck, Calvin

sideoiler,

It is made of spring steel, (their pretty hard to break).
I've removed them with a combination of pliers, screwdriver & hammer before.
It helps to get one side started through the hole, while holding pressure on that side compress the other side.

Thanks for the tips. I just got back from removing it. I just used a screwdriver and pushed those fingers flat until they fit back through the hole. I wasn't sure when I posted this in how it was made but it's clear now. Although, the hose clamp idea is a good one.

I don't understand when Ford made the aux tank an option and changed the parking brake cable design, why didn't they just change all of them to be the same? They could've made an anchor point for the front cable for all of the 2wd trucks. I know Keith discovered this the hard way when adding his aux tank in his truck. That's why I'm saving the cable and metal piece.

Hose clamp works, FYI. That's what I did. Have heard of using a properly sized socket as well, but the hose clamp seemed like a winner and it did indeed work like a champ......
