Newbie alert - new F250 owner

Post by 67RangerInSocal »

Hi Everyone -- Jimmy here. I just picked up a 67' F250 Ranger here in Socal, and I couldn't be happier. And I'm thrilled to find Fordification.com, as I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time here. So drinks are on me!

Take a look at my new ride:

http://www.slopbucket.com/67ford

I bought it from an old-timer who was the original owner. He is a bit of a gearhead, and did some pretty interesting things to it. Namely, a bright yellow paint job, dropped a new 429 engine (and tranny) in it. He also replaced some of the interior parts (steering wheel, shifter, radio). And what's more he unfortunately didn't keep any of the original parts.

I would love to get some of these original parts back in it. Being that I'm new, I would appreciate any guidance or direction you can provide. Right now, I'm in search of a new steering wheel (w/turn signal), and maybe a few of the chrome trim pieces inside the cab.

And if there are any of you folks in the LA area, it would be great to meet you. I'd love to show you my truck and get some advice; and of course, I'd love to see some of the cool work you have done on yours.

Thanks in advance,

Jimmy
Cheers,

Jimmy

Welcome. That's a nice looking 67. National Parts Depot is the about the best for original parts and small here-and-there parts. You'll find many parts are 67 year specific. Asking on the Parts Wanted forum will help dig up some odds and ends too.

Yeah Socal,
I like the core support painted to match, also the burger joint in the background that we don't have around here. Reminds me of another burger joint I wish we had here-Sonic burger, Mmmmmmmm.......
I guess it's getting close to dinner time!

Very sharp ride! So do you turn signals work? It appears the previous owner just installed an aftermarket wheel with adaptor onto the stock column, which shouldn't affect turn signal operation....as long as it's the proper adaptor.

Were you thinking of replacing the hood trim, like the side emblems and front F-O-R-D letters? Take a look at the backside of the hood and see if he actually welded the holes up or just plugged 'em up with body filler. Filler could be carefully knocked (or drilled) out to allow you to replace those items.

I assume all those wire are for a stereo. Maybe you can put all those wires in a black flex tube if you don't want to put them under the cab floor.

Hi Jimmy, nice truck! I bought a 67 F250 for my son while he was in High School-it was springtime yellow just like the original color of yours and we repainted it a 1955 T-bird color-Goldenrod Yellow-and it looks exactly the same shade as yours.

Thanks to all of you for your approving comments :D Much appreciated. Truth be told, the paint job is pretty sloppy - you have to be up close to get the whole story. But it works for the time being.

I have so many things to do to this, that it's a little overwhelming. But I'll pick one project at a time, i guess.

Not sure what the gears are in the rear. I'm due to meet with the old-timer I bought it from this weekend, where I will have lots of questions. He's also going to (hopefully) show me some photos of what it looked like new. This will give me a blue print of what needs to be done to restore it.

So the fuel door on my truck isn't original? Oy... I have so much to learn.

Tell me if this isn't the right forum, but I would like to find a book(s) that will help me with what it originally looked like, and maybe with some guidance on doing an interior/exterior restoration.

Thanks again to everyone. Fordification.com is such an awesome resource. Hope I can return in kind some day.

Start off by reading the 1967 VIN Data page to get an idea of how your truck originally came from the factory. It'll give you the correct paint code(s) and codes for the engine, tranny and rearend.

It's probably a good idea, with a truck that old, to compare the VIN on the driver's door tag with the VIN number stamped on the frame.(CLICK HERE for pics of the two spots on the frame where you can find it.) Often a previous owner will replace the driver's door (and VIN tag) with a junkyard door, but neglect to replace the original tag. As long as the two numbers match, you're good to go.

...and no, '67-'72 Ford trucks never had a hinged door like that from the factory. You could get dealer-installed auxiliary fuel tanks which came with some paper-thin (cheesy) aluminum doors, but yours has definitely been added on from a later-model vehicle. (Post some pics of the fuel filler neck taken from inside the bed, so we can see how it was fitted!)

This may help you get a handle on what was originally on your truck.
