9" swap question

Post by iamthewreckingcrew »

Can I take the 9" pumpkin out of my 81 and swap it right into my 68 9"?

The 81 has traclock and the 68 is an open rear. I want to roast both rear tires when I swap in the big block.

no because the spline count on the axles are different in 67-72 vs newer trucks. the 67-72's mostly had 28 splined axels. very few of them had 31 splined axels.

Crap. And I suppose the axles in the 81 are too long too, huh?

probably. but you could sawp the whole rear end if you move the spring perches on the axel housing.

If you have the $$$, you can do the swap and buy new axles with any spline and length you want. I've seen axles for a little as a couple hundred for the pair.
