Dumb Questions About Bleeding Brakes

Post by derek7871 »

I know you have to open a vent/bleed valve at each wheel and get someone to press down on the pedal to get the air out. Does it matter which one you do first or are they all the same. Also, I'm not exactly sure where the bleed valve is. I've always paid to have my brake work done, but I'd like to do this. Be easy with me guys...

the bleeder is one the rear of the backing plate of each wheel. it is the ppart that looks like a grease zirt. you start with the furthest one away from the master cylinder which is the passenger rear . then the drivers rear then passenger front and finally the drivers front.

If you have the time and the area to do it, try gravity bleed. crack all 4 bleeders ever so slightly & leave open. You want just a trickle of fluid. Fill the m/c & go have a beer....or 2. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours, have had 'em where it takes overnight. Make sure you keep an eye on the cylinder & make sure you don't run dry.

To make the job real easy you can use a vacuum brake bleeder.

They're something like $20 at Harbor Freight
Then you can bleed the brakes yourself.

1. Make sure MS is full of fluid
2. Attach vacuum bleeder hose to the bleeder screw
3. Open the bleeder valve and squeeze the handle repeatedly until the bubbles stop...
4. Close the bleeder valve screw then repeat for each wheel

You just have to make sure that the MS doesn't run dry...

It takes a 1/4 of the time as the two man pump and hold method and does a better job.

I have never go the vacume things to pit tight enough to pull the fluid.

I always just do a gravity bleed. If the hoses are not swolen, then it should only take a few min for each wheel.

Hey Max...

I was told a trick on how to do it...
Start with a fresh end
(if not a new hose, you can cut the end of the hose off)
Heat the tip of the hose a little first with a lighter, then when ya put it on as it cools, it will shrink to fit...
