I have an automatic column now that doesn't look to good not mention the shifter is held together with a peice of wire and duck tape.
Now for the question. If I had a column out of a manual truck that had the four speed on the floor all I would have to do is buy and automatic floor shifter and cut a hole in the floor to be able to use this column. Right?
For the most part that's correct. However, we need more info on your truck and the donor, as far as if they're 2WD or 4WD and if the steering is power or manual.
The column for power steering has a shorter shaft in it than a manual-steering column. If your truck has power steering and the donor truck doesn't (or vice versa) you'll have to swap the center shaft between the two.
Also, a 2WD shaft won't work on a 4WD, though a 4WD shaft could work in a 2WD if you use a bolt-on rag-joint flange, like those used in '78-'79 tilt columns.
