tire size help

Post by turk54 »

I have 15x8 rims, and I'm not sure what tires would give me the look I'm going for. I'm thinking 275/60's or 255/70's.

What size are you guys with 15x8's running and can I see pictures if you have some?

I run 235/70's... There aren't any real closeups of the tires, but I have a couple shots in my gallery.

And that's for sure on an 8" wide rim? That looks pretty good. I have 235/70's on the rims I'm currently running, but they are only 7" wide, I thought they would be to narrow and not look right, but yours looks good. This just might have saved me from having to buy tires. Thanks

I did a little tire coparison at the shop when I bought them. I found the the 235/75 tire had a little higher profile than the 70's, at least in the tires I looked at.

235x70R15

235 = 235mm Width
70 = 70% of 235mm Side wall height
15 = 15" Rim

Tire Diameter = 235*.70*2/25.4+15" = 28.88"

Do yes the 75's will be a taller tire about 1"

Be sure to check the specs, as some tires have a recomended rim width range. Most are 1" less than the width of the tire. 235mm=9.25" so 8" wide rim MAX.

I used to run 275/60s on my 1885 F150. They looked awesome! BUT they were almost dangerous. They floated on top of the water in the rain. I always felt like I was on the edge of control. :2cents:

I'll probably run my 235/70's now that I know they will work (as long as it looks ok) I will probably opt for the 275/60's when I need tires. I won't driver her much, if at all, in the rain.
