Left front rear spring hanger

Post by charter »

On my 68 4x4 the LFR spring hanger has rusted really thin. Can I grind it down and weld in new metal ? I found a new one it's $75 OEM new old stock. Finding one in PA that's in better shape may be tough. Any idea's would be appreciated

Think if it was mine, I would opt for the NOS as long as you can get it. Grind off rivet heads and punch out rivets holding bracket to frame and mount new one with grade 8 bolts with metal self locking nuts. Make sure and do a thorough inspection of the rest of it, as it has all been together and been enduring the same environmental issues for the same time.

Where are you in PA? The JY near me has a bunch of bumps (well picked over) with some good suspension on them.

I am up near erie...

Eric

I can get all four 1980 hangers and both shackles from Ford. they are 3" wide rather than 2 1/2". I like the idea of the new ones because they will look better than the pitted up old ones. Does anyone know why Ford went to the wider spring ? I am going to Ford sometime this week to compare the old hanger to a new one. The only way I will do this is if, it is a direct bolt on. If it helps the frame is a 1976 Highboy. If anyone knows of any problems doing this let me hear it.

Have you tried a spring shop? The aftermarket is making hangers and may have them to fit your truck. :)
