pilot bearing removal

someone post a real easy way to remove these things something about pumping grease behind the bearing and letting that push it out. i can't remember where it was posted could someone refresh my memory on how that was done again.

What I do is to take a grease gun and pump the area behind the pilot bearing until it is level full.

Then I find a bolt or rod that is just a little smaller than the bearing hole, place it on top of the grease, then give it a good whack or two with a hammer.

This should compress the grease and force the bearing out.

i use grease , a 1/2 inch 3/8 drive craftsman socket and a 6" extension, and a brass hammer to hit it with.

Definitely use some plastic or towels to cover everything up or else you’ll be finding flung grease in the garage for awhile. Ask me how I know. :doh:

Don't need to ask, I know first hand. Hence another reason to use vaseline, it doesn't have any chemicals that can be splooged into your eyes. 8)
