How many cross members do you have on a two wheel drive short bed?
I think I have one more than I should. Between where the engine perches are and where the tail shaft of tranny bolts down is another cross member. I dont think it is doing anything.... :hmm:

i think that is the front transmission crossmember. i don't remeber why its there. but i think it has a good purpose.

On a 2wd it ties the frame togeth so the radius arm s have something solid to mount to. On a 4x4 it's inline with the spring shackles.

first time i changed m tranny i took the tranny crossmember out and never put it back that was 25 years ago still dont see what pupos it served

It's like Dustin described....and very important. You're weakening the front suspension setup by removing that completely. I'd definitely consider replacing that if it's gone.

Yes, you should have seven. Take a look at the following illustration from the 1970 Body Builder's Layout Book:

Thanks Keith. I thought maybe when the previous owner put a small block in it It might have gained a new tranny cross member. Guess not.

i know its a pain in the arse when dealing with the front bolts on a c6 pan.

Wonder if it would be safe to notch it around the trans pan area? maybe reinforce it if neccisary?

I don't have that one in mine. Looks like I need to round one up. But no problems as of yet with not having it. But the 514 might cause some issues. Guess we will just have to see.
1969 Ford F-100. 302 4 barrel, C4 auto, 9in 3.50 open rear, headers, power steering, Turq/wht, Under restoration. In other words, in a million pieces!!!

There is no Replacement for Displacment!!!
