Where to buy engine?

I had a Camaro awhile back that I had a reman engine installed in and it knocked from the start. Not when running, but on start up. The main jounals on the block were out of tolerance and the oil would leak out when it sat. It was such a headache that I will never buy another reman engine again!

I'd snoop around and find a good local machine shop. I have found many (most) reman engines to be built to pretty sloppy standards. We used to call them 30,000 mile engines.

The nearest machine shop is over 50miles, Sucks in a small town of only 3,000 people.
I can have a friend take it back home with him to a shop that 70 80 year old men run! They pore babbit for model A engines, Thats how good they are.

I live in a small town too and the good machine shops are 60 miles. That doesn't seem like a huge hurdle to me.
I also know old guys who pour babbit on A models, but I wouldn't take my V8 to them..
