Wheel fell off

Post by techneeks »

Hey there guys.. I am totally new to workin on these trucks.. totally new to workin on cars period. I have a 1971 F250 4WD with a 390. I had a clanking noise in the front right wheel area and talked to some locals that suggested replacing the hubs.. So i replaced the hub (as per instruction) with some "superwinch" universal hubs. This took about 30 min. I backed the truck up and pulled forward and my bloody right wheel just dropped off. Its just hangin there by the steering and the brake line. Is this something i goofed or am I lucky that it happened in my yard. Now my question is what could be broke and/or what would need replacing?

:hmm: I see a large project in your future.

:? So the hole knuckle pop off? :hmm: First you got ta see what let go the the joint or the knuckle casting. Well either way I see a bent axle, and a lot a seals bearings, a new brake line, :hmm: did ya bend the center link?
 I hope you got a parts truck or a credit card. 3/4s can get costly.

And ya you are lucky it happened in your yard, if you were in the street doing say 50 or so mph, just think of the body count. or the large tow bill.
WHAT ?
