64/72 Twin I Beam

Post by mikecarson »

Hi all. I recently picked up a 72 F100 rolling chassis, and a 64 F100 cab on a rolling chassis. Both have been parted out. This cab is the starting point for my son's truck, he'll be 16 in 4 years, so I better get started!!

I'm going to put the Twin I Beam setup on the 64 frame, so I can put disc brakes on it, and power steering. I thought I would put the cab on the 72, but the PO had cut the numbers off the frame for header clearance.

I'll be asking some questions along the way, just thought I'd make an introduction.

What you propose can be done, but it's a LOT of work. You do realize that the VIN is stamped in two places on the frame, right? All you need is one of them to match up with the title to be legal. Why couldn't you just swap the '64 cab onto the '72 chassis and use the second set of VIN numbers to license/register the truck?

Take a look at this page:

Finding Your VIN Numbers

Just trying to save you a lot of unnecessary work...if that's the only reason you're contemplating putting the I-beam setup on the early frame. :D

I like fabrication, and having something "different". Either way, it's measure, measure again, and a few more times. There really isn't a lot of "fabbing" either way, once the measurements are done, start drilling bolt holes. Not saying it will be easy, but it will keep me out of the bars.
