Correct color blue for engine parts

Post by Ferris95 »

Was wondering if someone could tell me which and the zillion Ford blue paints is the correct one for my 1968 F-250.  Maybe someone can tell from the pics I’ll post.  I’ve read a ton of threads and am still not sure which one to get.

I used Dupicolor engine enamel DE1621 Old Ford Blue for the blue parts and Dupicolor engine enamel DE1635 Ford semi gloss black for the brackets and pulleys. It's been the best match I've found out there and if you have an O'Reilly's close by they stock it on the shelf. I still had enough good paint on my valve covers and brackets that I could match it and it was pretty darn close.

I took the Ford corporate blue rattle can cap to NAPA and they mixed me an exact match of acrylic enamel. Shot it through my jamb gun after adding reducer and hardener. After 30 years, it still looks brand new.

Yep - mine is a '68 also. Had plenty enough of the original paint that wasn't faded that I could match it up!

That's the best way to go if you have access to the stuff to do it with - using a spray gun is always better than a rattle can and being able to add hardener makes for one hell of a shine. Did that on my JD 110 I restored and it looks better than when it was new!

Where did you get that Autolite battery and tag at? Been wanting that for mine but haven't had any luck finding what I needed.

Gonna order 2 cans of DE1621 and 2 cans of DE1635 for the brackets and pulleys and other stuff. Can’t wait! Wish I could find the stock air cleaner as the previous owner got rid of it for some crap chrome thing.

I got one of eBay - was the only place I could find one unless maybe you put a thing in the parts wanted section on here.if you go the ebay route make sure you get a picture of the inside of it before you buy it - got one from there and it had sat with water in it and looked like a screen after I sandblasted it.....

Ya, I see one on eBay and it looks really rusty. Gotta be some out there in good shape. If anyone knows of one, let me know. Just wondering if it will fit with the bigger DUI distributor cap.

The Autolite is a cover that goes over a modern maintenance free battery. The Autolite tag is from NPD.
