What all would be involved in putting a 360/390 into a truck originally equipped with a 302? Here is what I can think of, let me know what I have overlooked.
360/390 with bell housing and clutch.
Engine mounts
Radiator?
Radiator shroud?
Seems like it should be pretty straightforward

Add engine / frame perch and exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes to the list:"dtcohen" What all would be involved in putting a 360/390 into a truck originally equipped with a 302? Here is what I can think of, let me know what I have overlooked.

throttle linkage maybe
Not sure what model truck this swap is intended for, but the throttle linkage might need lengthening/shortening, too. In the past I've owned a 1967 F100 that was originally equipped with a 240 6yl 3spd, then a 289 3spd, then a 360 4spd. At some point the throttle linkage, which was correct for an FE engine, had been changed. But I have never seen the different linkages side by side so I can't say what they are, if any.

Re: 302 to 360/390 swap
If the throttle linkage needs changing (and I don't know that it does), I decided to bypass all of that Ford parallelogram madness, and did a direct link from the pedal linkage to the carburetor using heim joints and all-thread. This did change the configuration from a "push" to a "pull," though.

A good write up on making a custom throttle linkage I have saved for a future problem I know I'll have. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2004 ... /index.php

Re: 302 to 360/390 swap
Thanks for the info guys! The throttle linkage is something that I hadn't thought about. My plan is to use a borg warner 3spd OD transmission, so I will have to figure out something for the kickdown switch.

T85N-OD wiring
If you don't succeed in rounding up good overdrive relay, kickdown switch, governor, etc, just make sure you have a good solenoid and you can use a toggle switch fastened to the shifter. Find a switched power source in the fuse panel, put a 20 amp fuse in line of the wire to the switch mounted on the shifter, then wire from the switch to the actuating lead (one of the two wire leads) on the solenoid. When connected properly, and it's easy to do, you don't need a good governor or any of the other items that actuate the OD unit automatically. You just use the switch and relax the throttle to allow the overdrive to engage and disengage as you wish. This also gets you 6 forward gears nicely spaced on the T85N-OD.dtcohen wrote:Thanks for the info guys! The throttle linkage is something that I hadn't thought about.
