I was told some years ago that small block fords in a truck application had a different cam profile and were better torquers than the car motors , and also that the truck motors were not subject to performance downgrades for pollution control in the early 70's as soon as car motors were. I have not been able to confirm either of these statements anywhere ........ does anyone out there have knowledge of these details ?

Welcome to the site.
I'm not sure exactly what the differences were back then,
But with a modern upgraded cam ,and some head work you can out perform an older stock motor.

Re: 302 p.u. application perf. specs
thanx for the suggestions ....... what I want to do ( if what I was told years ago is true ) is find a good running stock 302 p.u. motor as a replacement for an old Y-block in a '56 f1oo { lightening up the load on steering gear and giving me a few more horses to harness with a reasonable amount of low end torque } I would also like to find an ' old school ' adapter to bolt the later small block to the existing truck 4 spd. Ya , I know , the old 4spd. is barbaric and heavy but those old drive train ratios were all around pretty sweet .
