Slam or Clunk in Reverse
I have heard this common in Fords but what are the reasons for hard slam or clunk when shifting Automatic 71 Ford F100 into reverse. It runs fine in reverse but has hard clunk when shifting it into reverse gear?

Re: Slam or Clunk in Reverse
My 77 bronco does the same thing only in reverse forward is fine. I checked my fuild the other day and it looked like u dipped it out of a mud hole. I'm going try changing the fuild and filter and run it for a month and change it again.

Re: Slam or Clunk in Reverse
Seems like this is common, I could never find the cause. Checked U-joints, rear diff play, lubricated the drive shaft and nothing could be found that was wrong. Used to be kinda violent in my 68' but never hurt anything else and just like you said the ones I've had never made any noise in other gears

I think that this is just a Ford thing. Just about every Ford I've had all the way up to a 2008 Super Duty did that.
