I bought a 67 F250 with a 352, 4 speed manual and a Carter AFB with two hoses pictured on it. I am not sure if it the original 352.
It has a Carter 9755S.
I can not get much information on it. I believe it could be an aftermarket carb.
An Edelbrock tech told me it takes a 1477 rebuild kit. He also said it is a 750 CFM. Very large. One place told me it is a competition series carb however, it does not say Competition Series on it.
It has all four jets that are 120's and 71 47 metering rods.
What size range of jets should I try?
I would appreciate any info on this carb.
Also would like a good and dependable parts vendor.

Re: Carter AFB Questions
that carb seems very mis-matched to a 352. 120 range jets front and back?? that carb should be sitting on top of a tunnel ram or super charger, is this a pretty much stock engine besides the intake? i would think your jet sizes would be somewhere in the 60s in front and maybe a step or two down in the back, what do you do with the truck? just a driver? you may want to just get something else that would be more orientated to your truck/driving habits instead of trying to setup a carb that has obviously been setup for something else entirely. but more info on your truck engine, driving style, intended use would be helpful.

Re: Carter AFB Questions
It is going to be a daily driver with some pulling of a trailer (not often).
I knew that the jets had to have been changed and I figure the metering rods too.
What carb do you suggest for a truck like this?
The intake is a stock one. From what I can find it is good for a 4v.
Yes the motor is stock.

Re: Carter AFB Questions
Carter's are such an oddball animal, I'd either leave it alone or toss it on the shelf and replace it with a Holley or vintage Autolite.
If it runs good I'd leave it well enough alone.

Re: Carter AFB Questions
The carb is apart and on the bench. This weekend I hope to do something.
A guy on the phone at Jegs told me that common jet sizes for an AFB are 110 107 for economy and 113 107 for more fuel. They all sound large.
I would like to make the carb usable and use or sell it.
Thanks for the input about the 600 Holley. That sounds like a good choice for sizing.
What about the 2V carbs that I have seen on a lot of old Fords with a 352?
Does anyone have feelings about using one of those vs. a 4V?

Re: Carter AFB Questions
My comment in the original post referenced that Carter (and Edelbrock) did things differently and pretty much anything tuning related is done differently. They are very complicated and everything works together to make the carb perform under all conditions. Without a list of specific problems you want to remedy on the carb you are just shooting in the dark and much more likely to make it not run well then run well. I've played with a couple and it never ends well. Keep them box stock and pray it doesn't burp.
Per the 2100 on a 352, it would work wonderfully and give a small boost in power with a large venturi one sourced from a 390 engine. I have one on my 289 and it runs great without any tuning issues.

Re: Carter AFB Questions
Yes you are right they are a complicated carb.
The original problem was that it was getting too much fuel. It couldn't idle without flooding out. I should have explained that to start with.
I think if I could find out how it came out of the box it would work well. Still a lot of carb for the truck.
I have already gotten the rebuild kit so I am somewhat committed to getting it working better.
Now it may not be what is ultimately used on the truck.
I am going to investigate the options mentioned by forum members and any other ideas that may be brought up here.
If you have any carb makes and models that you would advise using, I would like to hear about them.
Thanks
